About Koves — Cermet Cutting Tool Manufacturer

Koves manufactures cermet cutting inserts and solid cermet tools in Dongguan, Guangdong, China. In-house development of the Ti(C,N) substrate and coating since 2009, on German cutting-tool manufacturing technology.

Who we are

Koves Industry Co., Ltd. specialises in cutting-tool manufacturing, tool application and tool management. Since 2009 the company has built its process around a cutting laboratory: we test the tool against the actual workpiece rather than selling from a catalogue — which is why the test reports published on this site include the runs where we only reached parity.

Our manufacturing is based on German cutting-tool technology, independently developed and refined in-house. Cermet is a separate product line with its own substrate development, pressing and sintering, grinding and coating flow, so grade and geometry changes stay short-loop inside the plant instead of waiting on an outside supplier.

What we make

cuttermall.com is the cermet product line: turning inserts in M grade (uncoated) and G grade (coated), grooving, threading, small-bore boring tools, bearing ring inserts and form-tool blanks, milling inserts, and CC-MAX solid cermet end mills and precision rods.

The substrate is Ti(C,N) based — Co/Ni binder at 12.5–14%, WC at 20–23% and TaNbC at 6–12%, sintered to a 1.5 µm grain at HV30 1620. Two grades cover the range: KT20 uncoated for the sharpest edge and cleanest finish, KCT25 with nano-AlTiN coating for longer edge life in more abrasive cuts. The sister site kovestool.com covers our PCBN and PCD superhard line for hardened steel above HRC 45.

How we work with customers

Cermet is a finishing tool, and finishing problems are process problems — edge preparation, depth of cut, coolant and rigidity all decide whether a cermet edge replaces a grinding operation or fails in the first cycle. So we specify the grade and geometry against your workpiece, establish the cutting data with you, and stay on the operation until the surface and the tool life hold.

The factory runs a constant-temperature grinding workshop, which keeps dimensional consistency stable across a production run — the property that matters most when a customer is holding tolerance on a finishing pass with a 0.1 mm depth of cut.

Where we are

Manufacturing is based in Chang'an Town, Dongguan, Guangdong Province, China — in the Pearl River Delta metalworking cluster, one hour from Shenzhen. Cermet inserts and solid tools are exported to metalworking plants and cutting-tool distributors worldwide.

Cermet in numbers

  • 501 cermet insert and solid-tool models in the catalogue
  • 52 insert series across 8 product families — turning, grooving, threading, boring, bearing, milling, solid tools and rods
  • 2 grades: KT20 uncoated and KCT25 nano-AlTiN coated
  • 1.5 µm Ti(C,N) grain size, hardness HV30 1620
  • 2009 tool manufacturing since — Dongguan, Guangdong, China
  • ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 certified quality, environmental and safety management

Quality management

ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified. Insert dimensions are checked against catalogue tolerances — corner radius, inscribed circle, thickness and bore — and hardness and microstructure are verified per sinter batch. Coating thickness and adhesion are checked on KCT25 batches. Certificate copies are published on the quality page.

Test data, published as recorded

The cutting test reports on this site come from customer machines: same insert geometry, same machine, same coolant, same cutting data, one grade changed. Reference grades are anonymised, and every report shows the recorded tool life — including the tests that ended in parity rather than a gain.
