Koves cermet form inserts and special toolholders for bearing ring turning

Bearing types covered

Koves bearing form tools are built for bearing-ring turning automatic lines. They machine the raceway, seal groove, chamfers and oil grooves of inner and outer rings for:

  • Deep groove ball bearings — raceway tools, seal groove tools and R-chamfer tools for inner and outer rings
  • Tapered roller bearings — chamfer and form tools for inner and outer rings, including combined forms
  • Hub (wheel) bearings — inner and outer ring forms
  • Needle roller bearings — inner and outer ring forms
  • Cylindrical roller bearings — inner and outer ring forms
  • Non-standard rings — custom form tools made to your ring drawing

Why indexable form tools on bearing lines

The insert profiles are corrected by computer-aided calculation to hold ring geometry. When an edge wears out, index to a fresh edge — no regrinding loop, no re-setting of the machine to a different cutting position.

Application data from bearing plants switching to indexable form tools: turning productivity up by roughly 20% (no tool regrinding and less adjustment), grinding productivity up by roughly 10% (less grinding stock and better turned geometry), and fewer grinding scrap losses because the turned raceway geometry no longer causes wheel contact errors.

Ordering note: outer-ring and inner-ring tools exist in clockwise and counter-clockwise spindle versions, with internal or external chip evacuation. When ordering, tell us the full process route (including whether the insert is mounted face-down and whether the holder is clamped on its base) so we can pre-check the edge structure and match insert and holder. Outer raceway inserts are available on triangular, square and V-shaped bases; we select the base from the raceway R curvature, groove depth, ring structure and chip evacuation.

Standard profile chart

109 standard combinations of nose radius and axial / radial angle are held as standard ground profiles. Custom profiles are made to drawing — send us the ring section and we will quote the form insert and matching holder.
